Married to Ola Mann Married to Frances Sergeant. Father of Samuel Steger and John Steger and Andrew Steger and William Steger and Frances Steger and David Steger and Thomas Steger and Elizabeth Steger. Son of Agnes McLaurine and Samuel Steger. Brother of Robert Steger. Half-brother of Elizabeth Steger and Nancy Steger and Samuel Steger and Charles Steger and Benjamin Steger and Littlebury Steger and Mary Steger.

Known as William of Buckingham. Lived in Buckingham Co., VA, all his life. Reared on Deep Creek Plantation, inherited by his father from Francis George Steger. Located in James River watershed, adjacent to Summerset Plantation, the childhood home of Agnes McLaurine, his mother. Spent his life farming 400 acres inherited from his grandfather, Francis George, in the Piedmont region of what later became Buckingham Co. Saw service in War of 1812. Five of his sons migrated to Christian County, KY.
