Robert De Thweng
Male 1123
Born, Legsby, Caistor, Lincolnshire.
Father of Robert De Thweng. Son of Pagan FitzWalter and (Unknown) Fossard.
THWENG Originsce is a certain Robert, son of Robert, who held a knight's fee of William de Percy in Legsby and elsewhere in co. Lincoln in 1166; and it is clear that, being also known by the name of Thweng, he had a connexion with Thwing in East Riding Yorks. It has been suggested that, although no carta of Adam de Brus for the Brus fee in Yorkshire has survived, Robert, son of Robert de Thweng, held half a knight's fee of him in Thwing in 1166. It has also been suggested that the family originated in co. Durham, being related to the FitzMarmadukes, lords of Horden.ld feoffinent of William de Percy in 1166. As Robert, son of Robert, with the assent of Emma his wife, he gave the vill of Legsby, co. Lincoln, to Sixhills priory, and also, as Robert, son of Robert de Tegneg, the church of the vill. He married Emma, who can be identified as one of the 3 sisters and coheirs of Duncan DAREL, of Lund, East Riding Yorks (f). He was living in 1172 (g). l, and Helewise de Arel, occur in cases relating to his land in Deighton and to the dower of his widow in Lund; and in the same year Marmaduke de Tueng' was defendant against the widow for a third of 4 carucates in Lund. This conforms with the pedigree put forward in a case of 1309 relating to Lund, when it was stated that from Emma, one of the 3 sisters of Duncan Darel, her interest in Lund descended to her son Marmaduke, the ancestor of the then Marmaduke de Thweng.ave the Church of St. Thomas in Legsby to the Gilbertian priory of Sixhills, co. Lincoln. In the chronicles call Robert FitzRobert .he United Kingdom, by G. E Cokayne, Sutton Publishing Ltd, 2000he United Kingdom, by G. E Cokayne, Sutton Publishing Ltd, 2000
