Married to Dorothy Dobson. Father of Robert Carew and Elizabeth Carew and Ellen Carew and Dolly Carew and Mary Carew and Dobson Carew. Son of Iii Carew and Elizabeth Shapland (Chaplain). Brother of Robert Carew and Thomas Carew and Ellen Carew.

In 1770, the Mansion House or Castleboro House was built on the opposite side of the Forestalstown river in County Wexford and the townland was renamed Castleboro versus Ballyboro.
