Married to Dorothy Dobson. Father of Robert Carew and Dobson Carew and Dolly Carew and Mary Carew and Ellen Carew and Elizabeth Carew. Son of Iii Carew and Elizabeth Shapland (Chaplain). Brother of Thomas Carew and Robert Carew and Ellen Carew.

In 1770, the Mansion House or Castleboro House was built on the opposite side of the Forestalstown river in County Wexford and the townland was renamed Castleboro versus Ballyboro.
