Father of John Bixby. Son of Mephibosheth Bixby and Mary Emmons.
BIOGRAPHY: Samuel Bixby was b. 31 Aug. 1716 and died 12 March 1800 inBoyls ton, Mass. Samuel married 1st Mary Buck of Woburn in Nov. 1737 (d. M ay 1, 1773, aged 62; buried Old Burial Ground, Boylston, Mass.); and 2nd S arah Beaman, widow, 8 Oct. 1773 (d. 21 Jan. 1801). He was a cordwainer a nd farmer. He moved from Shrewsbury to Westford in 1740, and was jailed in Worcest er in June, 1741 for debts. He purchased six acres in Lancaster from Jo hn Glazier on 6 Feb. 1744. He returned to Shrewsbury by 3 March 1745 when he owned the covenant a nd had sons Manassah and Ephraim baptized ("Church Records of Shrewsbur y, Mass.", NEHGS 77:20) On 10 May 1745 he sold land to John Chandler J r. of Worcester, the six acres in Lancaster described as bordering on h is land (Worcester Co. Land Records 20:186). He served with Capt. Jabez Be aman 7 April 1757 in the French and Indian War. He was in Lancaster by April, 1758, when he bought four acres there fr om Nathaniel and Thomas Carter (Worcester 40:246). He bought more land fr om them on 1 Oct. 1759, three acres and ten rods near the SE corner of tow n, N of his homelot, for L2-14-0 (Worcester 115:114). By 1789 he lived in Boylston and was called "yeoman," selling five acr es laid out to him in Sterling for a town way to Jacob Glazier 5 Nov. 17 89 for L8-14-0 (Worcester 111:211). He sold 19 acres 9 rods in the west p art of Boylston, described as where he lived, as well as three parce ls of four acres, four acres, and three acres ten rods (two purchased fr om the Carter brothers) to Ezra Beaman of Boylston for L40 on 29 March 17 92 (Worcester 115:118).
