Partner of Rognide Rogvoldsdatter. Father of Yaroslav Vladimirovich. Son of Svyatoslav Igorovich and (Unknown) Malushka.
orod when his father died in 972. He was forced into exile when his half- brother Yaropolk seized Novgorod. He returned from exile with an army, recaptured Novgorod and seized Kiev in 980, killing Yaropolk. He consolidated his rule from Ukraine to the Baltic. For helping the Byzantine Emperor Basil II put down a rebellion, he was rewarded with marriage to Basil's sister, Anna. He converted to Byzantine Christianity and 'cast off' his other, pagan wives in 988. He was canonized for his vigorous support of Christianity.
