The 1880 census finds the couple in Steele, Daviess County, Indiana with two children: Mary A. and Agnes P. He appears as Clem Mattingly on the 1900 census of Brown, Martin County, Indiana with his wife and six children at home: Mary A.; Agnes P.; Malinda E.; John S.; William H.; and Susan M. The 1910 census shows the couple with five children at home. Missing was Agnes. Clement and wife were living with a widowed daughter named Mary Spears during the 1920 census of Martin County, Indiana. Others in the home were a son named John and two daughters who apparently belonged to John named Mary P. and Anna D. The 1930 census finds Clem and his wife in Loogootee, Martin County with a eight year old grand-daughter named Dorothy. This may have been a child of their son John.lic Church; birth date given as 6-28-1855; Sponsor was Margaret Madden. Some sources report the date of July 18, 1855. At least one researcher has posted birth records on Rootsweb.com stating that Caleb was born a slave. Nothing I have seen suggests he was anything but white and that includes many census records and his Baptismal record.e: 86; eath Place: Washington, Daviess, Indiana, USA; Marital Status: Widowed; Spouse: Hennetta Mattingly; Father: John Mattingly; Mother: Lavina Williams.
