Father of Mary Mattingly and Agnes Mattingly and Malinda Mattingly and John Mattingly and William Mattingly and Susan Mattingly. Son of John Mattingly and Luvina Williams. Brother of Mary Mattingly and Mary Mattingly and Maria Mattingly and Ann Mattingly and Sarah Mattingly and James Mattingly and Mary Mattingly and John Mattingly and Martha Mattingly and William Mattingly and Mary Mattingly.
The 1880 census finds the couple in Steele, Daviess County, Indiana with two children: Mary A. and Agnes P. He appears as Clem Mattingly on the 1900 census of Brown, Martin County, Indiana with his wife and six children at home: Mary A.; Agnes P.; Malinda E.; John S.; William H.; and Susan M. The 1910 census shows the couple with five children at home. Missing was Agnes. Clement and wife were living with a widowed daughter named Mary Spears during the 1920 census of Martin County, Indiana. Others in the home were a son named John and two daughters who apparently belonged to John named Mary P. and Anna D. The 1930 census finds Clem and his wife in Loogootee, Martin County with a eight year old grand-daughter named Dorothy. This may have been a child of their son John.lic Church; birth date given as 6-28-1855; Sponsor was Margaret Madden. Some sources report the date of July 18, 1855. At least one researcher has posted birth records on Rootsweb.com stating that Caleb was born a slave.
